Our Evaluation Services
Many parents struggle with the question of whether testing for their child is necessary.
Often the initial consideration is brought on by your child struggling in school, having difficulty completing testing on time, having trouble paying attention in class, experiencing organizational challenges, scoring below grade level in reading, writing, or math, feeling frustrated quickly, having behavioral difficulties, or having difficulty socializing with peers.
You should take comfort in knowing that many parents are looking for answers. They have seen their child struggle with learning or emotional issues and want to understand a clear path forward.
We use the most comprehensive research designed practices and reliable tools to assess the needs and provide solutions to clients' unique circumstances. Our evaluation practice assesses psychological and educational functioning in order to give you the edge in knowing your child's strengths and making accommodations for any identified weaknesses.
These assessments can also be used to receive special accommodations on standardized tests such as the SSAT, SAT, ACT, LSAT, and GMAT.
FULL PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION
The most comprehensive battery of tests are commonly used to identify learning gifts or possible disabilities. This includes an IQ and Achievement battery alongside ADHD testing to assess for the possibilities of attention problems and/or learning disabilities. When combined with clinical interviewing and behavioral rating scales to rule out the influence of depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions on educational abilities and performance, we are able to pinpoint the area(s) most likely responsible for your child's learning gifts or challenges.
We also conduct a comprehensive review of the child's medical history, developmental milestones and academic history to identify any previously known conditions that might be affecting educational abilities and performance.
Evaluations
Each client’s needs are different.
Our process begins with a free consultation during which we identify the best battery of tests that will be most suitable for the client’s needs.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING
Psychological testing is often helpful for individuals who may feel ‘stuck’ in their life or to help better understand other factors which may be influencing your daily life by using objective and projective measures to assess an individual's cognitive, personality, and emotional functioning.
ACHIEVEMENT TESTING ONLY
For families who may have previously conducted a full psycho-educational evaluation, this service is useful for benchmarking academic achievement at different developmental milestones. This includes the Woodcock Johnson III (WJ-III), the standard in assessing academic achievement, or the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, 3rd Edition (WIAT-III), either of which will provide in-depth information on a child’s mastery of specific subjects (e.g. reading, writing, math) and on academic strengths and weaknesses.
ADULT CAREER COUNSELING ASSESSMENT
Looking for a new career but not sure where to start?
Dissatisfied in your current job but you don’t know why?
Feeling lost in your job/career search process and need help?
Returning to work after having taken time out of the work force?
Trying to pick a major or decide where to go for graduate school?
Lost your job and not sure where to go from here?
Not sure if your resume sends an impressive message?
Uncertain your interview skills are up to par?
Our assessment process includes an initial meeting to get to know you and your needs, and the administration of four reliable and highly-used career assessment tools, followed by an individual career counseling meeting to help you understand the results and plan your next steps.
This comprehensive assessment package is designed to encourage increased self-understanding and insight into your career interests, career values, and career-related skills. In addition, as psychologists we can help you understand how your personality preferences along with other factors (e.g., psychological difficulties, AD/HD, disabilities, etc.) may impact your career decision-making process. We can also help you explore what you have learned from past work experiences and past career choices and how this information can help in future career decisions. While the results will not tell you exactly what specific job would be best for you, testing will generate areas/fields where people with similar skills and personality tend to do well and be happy. The results will also help you gain a greater understanding of yourself in order to help you in the career decision making process.
A unique and (we think) essential feature of our career services is that we believe it is important to meet face-to-face to present results from the tests. Rather than just handing you summarized results from computer-generated reports, we sit down with you to help you understand what the results mean, how they apply to you, and how they can help you make important career decisions.
