Our Therapy Services

Psychotherapy can be a powerful and rewarding experience. The most important vehicle for change is the relationship between you and your therapist. We build relationships by establishing trust, mutual respect and a commitment to better understanding and transforming your life.

Insights from therapy, sometimes described as “a-ha” moments, are related to why individuals do what they do. We expect you will discover many things about yourself and your life in the therapy process.

We find these insights are borne of the collaborative efforts conducted by our therapists in an open exploration of the aspects of your life that are blocking you from living with intention and meaning. The most exciting developments in treatment involve individuals beginning to feel an increased capacity to use the many new ideas, experiences, and emotional skills gained in treatment in their everyday life. These life enhancing experiences enrich your relationships, work, and leisure pursuits.

Our therapists are intelligent, highly trained professional who seeks to join you in a process of discovery and growth.

Individual therapy is appropriate for individuals who are ready to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through loss, trauma or other challenging life events, be supported in identifying and adjusting aspects of day-to-day life to help live their best life possible.

We believe children often face unique challenges as they move through developmental stages. For some, these challenges stem from a biological or psychological obstacle that is present from birth. For others, they simply need help during a difficult time or transition in their young life. Still others just need a little extra help developing everyday life skills.

Child therapy provides a safe place for children to address obstacles in their development. We involve children in the goal-setting process, and allow them time in therapy to become comfortable with their therapist, the process, and with actively addressing obstacles so that they can manage them more effectively.

We help children develop good social and emotional health in collaboration with their peers.

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP (NOT YET AVAILABLE)

It is important for children to have good social and emotional health. When they do, they communicate well, pay attention to adults, and get along well with peers. To help children learn and practice these important skills, it is sometimes necessary to teach the skills directly and then give children many opportunities to practice them. Social skills play a very important role in school success. For example, paying attention to others, asking for help, following directions, and participating in a group activity are key skills for students to use in the classroom.

ANXIETY GROUP (NOT YET AVAILABLE)

This is a cognitive-behavioral program for the treatment of anxiety disorders in children and teens who engage in negative thinking, avoidant behavior, or whose anxiety interferes with their general functioning. Some of the more common problems that previous group members have conquered are: fear of sleeping alone, fear of being alone in a room, fear of new social situations, fear of being late, social phobia, and social anxiety. The therapy integrates elements of a behavioral approach (e.g., exposure to anxiety producing situations, relaxation training, and role plays) with a cognitive one (e.g., cognitive restructuring, positive self-talk, and problem solving). The goal of the treatment is to provide children with the skills to cope in a variety of anxiety-provoking situations. The program puts great emphasis on awareness of bodily reactions when anxious; identification and modification of anxious self talk; relaxation training; coping skills; practice assignments.
